Does cat hair age?

our cats hair was black with a hint of reddish brown when we found him 2 years ago over the course of one year it was completely black and now it has gray and white hairs, mostly by his tail is this normal if not what could cause it and could it be serious

yes it can turn grey, i had a groomer offer to dye the greys out of my dog once.

Just like black dogs get white hairs on their muzzles as they get older, cats can do the same thing. Sometimes, though, the change in color could be caused by a previous injury so can take place anywhere on the body. A reddish-brown coat could indicate very dry fur or a problem with the cat's nutrition at that time. I have an orange ticked tabby Munchkin that's getting black freckles on his nose and lips as he gets older. He's getting some black whiskers, too. Compared to humans, he's in middle age so this is probably to be expected. The vet says he's fine. Perhaps for your own peace of mind your kitty should have a checkup.
