My white roots come out auburn when I dye my hair dark brown-what do I do?

Try a more neutral toned brown, rather than a "golden" or "warm" shade.

Also, just dye your roots, not your entire head.

Try dyeing your hair with a "cool" dye, like L'Oreal's Natural Match with cool tones. The cool tones will counteract the reds. I have noticed that most hair dyes are warm dyes, which is why they come out with red undertones.

I use the Natural Match cool tones with the darkest brown I can find, and haven't noticed red tones while I've been wearing it. It also hasn't faded or washed out and I've been wearing it for over a month.

because your roots are white, they are lacking the pigment to make the dye dark brown.....it might even say on the box 'not suitable for grey/white hair'.....if you really want to stick with that colour, youve got to add pigment to your roots first....very easily done....just get some sort of wash in wash out semi permanent dye and put that on first...or some colour mousse, anything that is going to stop them from being white....in the past i have used a colour stick and tomatoe ketchup in an emergency! good luck.

Why not just go auburn! 3% of the population are natural red heads but it is the most popular hair color!
