Sometimes, why does kids' hair colour varies from parents' hair colour (having same hair c

My husband and I have raven black hair while our daughter (firstborn, 15 months old) has straw blonde hair (she was born with spiky black hair) and she doesn't look like either of us (same case with the eye colour as well, I have brown gray eyes and my husband has piercing blue gray eyes and she has black eyes. I'm now pregnant with my son). My mother-in-law has blonde-white hair, my father-in-law has grey-black hair, while both my parents have raven black hair (of course, now greying).

Cause she got the genes from your mother in law. I don't think that happens to often though.

Obviously your daughter got your mother-in-law's genes. While they are recessive (light colors are recessive) that doesn't mean they don't come out from time to time. It's the genetic lottery in a birth that makes life so much fun.

its all in the genes

Your children inherit the genes of your ancestors through you, so they could have the hair colour and traits of your great, great grandparents.

Recessive and dominant genes. Brown hair is dominant over blonde, the parents could have a brown hair but also have a blonde gene. If the child inherits both blonde, they are blonde. Genetics!

Furthermore, hair color is one of the traits that is controled by multiple alleles. There are not Black, Blonde, and Brown, but many variations and combinations. Her hair may also darken with age.
