the ONLY way to get your hair lighter is to use BLEACH...

however with dark brown hair it tends to go a carmel color and not the platnum blonde you want....

Regular dye will not lighten your hair more than a shade or so and add red tones to it. The only way to make your hair blonde is to bleach it.

Sounds like you are going to need to bleach it more than once too... its really really best to have a professional do this for you so you don't wind up with bright yellow and orange striped hair, or hair that is fried and falling out. There is nothing else you can do to help your hair go from dark brown to blonde. Good luck!
