My dog's hair is changing texture and color, any explaination for that?

My dog is a Maltese/Poodle mix and it's got thin fluffy white hair it's not really straight but not really curly, its pretty much just frizzy. And out of the blue the other day it suddenly god a completely flat patch of light brown fur. It's still thin, but it resembles that of a short haired chihuahua or something. Anyone know what could be going on?

well, i can have either 2 possible explanations:

1. its changing from its puppy fun to its adult fur

or

2. its changing from its winter to summer fur/ summer to winter.

its pretty much normal.

Coat quality varies on hybrid dogs - especially in the first generation.

Changes in diet, time of year, stress and age can change the coat.

Coat changes take about 2 weeks. So what was happening 2 weeks ago?

Some breeds get their adult hair around 9-12 mos %26amp; the texture can change. Also, the color can change also. I have a havanese who was black %26amp; white when I got her as a puppy, but she lightened to silver %26amp; white as she got older. The Havanese breed is known for changing hair colors. Maybe, the maltese/poodle is the same.

If your dog is a puppy, no need to worry. Puppies hair changes a lot during the growth process. If it is an adult dog, I would consult your veterinarian. Just ask the receptionist to leave him a message to call you about it before you spend the money on an exam. If he thinks he should see it, he'll tell you.

When skin is damaged or irritated the new coat comes in darker and harsher.

If it is a puppy then the light fluffy hair could have been its puppy coat. If not, then it just has a spot growing in different. In some dogs, especially mixes, their coat changes as it grows in. My schnuazer/cocker mix changes color almost every time we get her groomed. As her hair gets longer it gets wiry, and as soon as she is groomed, t is soft and silky. She changes from very light grey to charcoal (very dark) grey, to salt and pepper, and sometimes has apricot or fawn colored patches. Just depends.

Also, with it being summer, it could be getting its summer coat, which is usually thinner than a normal or winter coat. If it has been shedding a lot recently, this is probably the case.

Is it a young dog? If so, coat color and texture can change when the puppy coat changes to adult coat.

If its an older dog, its hair could be thinning out. Causing the frizziness. My dog is a Golden going on 11 years old and her coat has changed a lot in the last year.
