you should probably go to the salon and have it professionally done, so that you get the color you want, because you can end up with some really funky colors if you try to go back dark with store bought color. As long as your hair is healthy, you don't have to wait at all. It will probably be a long process; going from super light back to dark usually requires two processes so you get a nice color that is less likely to fade. Good luck! If you decide to do it yourself, call one of the color hotlines on the back of the box, they'll tell you what to use. Usually it will be a semi-permanent color so you don't get those funky colors I mentioned.
